FOLSOM: Week 4 Power Rankings

By James Doran | Folsom League Coordinator

1. Game Time (3-0)

Last Week: Won 73-63 vs The Expansions

Game Time continued to roll in Week 3 with a comfortable ten-point win against the Expansions. They were able to get near perfect performances from forwards Zach Jacobs and Meysam Salehi in the game. Jacobs would go for 15 points and 13 rebounds on 7-8 from the field. Salehi went 5/5 from the field and finished with 10 points and 4 boards. Tyler Alexander was once again excellent as advertised grabbing a game high 17 rebounds to go with his 24 points. This is a well-rounded team that’s showing it can get scoring from any position. They will look to stay undefeated in their Week 4 game against the Ballbarians.

2. Locker Room Talk (2-1)

Last Week: Won 84-67 vs Ballbarians

Locker Room Talk proved it’s one of the best teams in the league with their high-scoring win against the Ballbarians. They pushed the pace and wore down the Ballbarians with excellent passing and plenty of fast break opportunities. The stat sheet was stuffed by Joe Visman (30 points 11 rebounds 4 assists), Mike Martz (24 points 12 rebounds 5 assists) and Tanner Phelps (16 points 6 rebounds). Mike Martz tied for player of the week honors. LRT has some good momentum riding into their Week 4 game against Scrappy Hour.

3. Ballbarians (2-1)

Last Week: Lost 67-84 vs Locker Room Talk

Ballbarians took a blow to their morale in the loss to Locker Room Talk. Their defense had more holes than Swiss cheese as they allowed 84 points. They will have to figure out a way to rectify their defensive woes if they want to compete for a title this year. Virender Shergill had a breakout game for the Ballbarians with 13 points 5 rebounds 4 assists and 2 steals. Big man Carson McMurtery was missed in this one. They could have used his rebounding and inside scoring. Ballbarians have a tough matchup coming against Game Time, hopefully they will have their whole team available.

4. The Expansions (1-2)

Last Week: Lost 63-73 vs Game Time

Expansions fought valiantly, but could not put enough points on the board against Game Time. They may have had a chance if they got a little better shooting performances from starters Eric Kagan Cory Gregersen and Bryan Todd. They combined to shoot 13-46 (28.2 percent). I know they won’t shoot that poorly in many games this season. Alex DiManno had another strong game with 22 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 blocks. Expansions will look to bounce back against Chuck Taylors tomorrow.

5. Chuck Taylors (1-2)

Last Week: Won 65-60 OT vs Scrappy Hour

Chuck Taylors were huge dogs on paper against Scrappy Hour. This is because CT’s top player Mark Payne was listed as out earlier in the day. But the Chuck Taylors fought valiantly, and edged out an overtime victory. The Chuck Taylors would come back from 11 points down with three minutes to go in regulation. New addition Chris Murphy came up clutch with a steal and three to send the game into overtime. But it was Dan Barber that stole the show. Dan scored a game high 24 points including some deep threes in the comeback. This team has new hope on the season, and will look for their second win against the Expansions in Week 4.

6. Scrappy Hour (0-3)

Last Week: Lost 60-65 OT vs Chuck Taylors

It seemed that Scrappy Hour was in line for its first win last week until they let a double-digit lead slip away, eventually losing in overtime. It’s not all gloomy for the team though, they have just added big man Nick Armocido to fill in for Ron Jacobs, who is out for the season with a calf injury. Nick should bring good interior defense and offense for the team. Scrappy Hour should be getting back guard Vuk Mitic as well. It was good to see Jack Smith come through with his best game of the year, Jack finished with 15 points and 17 rebounds. Sanjay Bagai was also strong in the game, his 16 points and 16 rebounds tied him for player of the week honors. Scrappy Hour will look for its first win in their game against Locker Room Talk at 7 P.M.
