Nothing Funny About $hmoney

BURLINGTON: Week 6 Power Rankings

By David Jordan | Burlington Media Associate

Week 5 brought us the matchup we all were waiting to see. $hmoney faced off against the Dream Team in a battle for the top spot. The game didn’t disappoint and Shmoney was able to keep them dreaming. At this point, $hmoney is having their way with the league. With only two weeks left in the regular season, $hmoney could be looking at a perfect regular season, It won't be easy, but as we all can see, this team is no joke. Let’s check out this weeks power rankings.

1. $hmoney (5-0) Last Weeks Ranking - 1

In the battle for the top spot, $hmoney came out on top, improving their record to 5-0. Stephen Prescod (32 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists) and Jason LaPlanche (33 points, 11 rebounds, 9 assists) continued to terrorize the league in Week 5, as LaPlanche nearly triple-doubled yet again. $hmoney continues to impress, but more importantly they continue to win. They take the top spot again this week.

2. The Rox (4-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 3

That’s four in a row for The Rox.  Marcos Flores-Banegas (22 points, 7 rebounds) and Thomas Ugbesia (9 points, 20 rebounds) were they dynamic duo, as the two helped lead the way to a win over Legendary. Now the bad news is that they only won by five points, playing a team that had only four players. Nothing to write home about, but a win is a win. For now, they take the two spot.

3. Dream Team (4-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 2

It was close but no cigar as the Dream Team couldn’t find a way to take down Burlington’s best team.  Rennie Cato (20 Points) was the team’s high scorer. The team shot 53 percent from the field, and rebounds were dead even at 26 for both the Dream Team and $hmoney. It just wasn’t their night. The loss doesn’t kill them, but it’s back to the drawing board.

4. Fire (3-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

Fire, led by Chris Brown (24 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists), danced their way around the competition as they improved their record to 3-2.  Chris Breezy wasn’t alone, as Jahleel Moise (21 points, 12 rebounds, 4 blocks) had his best game in UH Burlington thus far. Fire is indeed trending upwards, but they still have more to prove. They stay at the four spot.

5. Reformation  (2-3) Last Week’s Ranking - 6

It was the Jean Romulus show last week, as his 27-point, 9-rebound night help lead Reformation to win over the Wolves. Romulus got to the line at will, finishing 9-11. The win was much needed for Reformation, as they showed they still had some fight in them. At least three of the starting five players finished with 9 rebounds, and as whole they shoot 59 percent from 3-point land. Not bad, not bad at all.

6. Legendary (2-3)  Last Week’s Ranking - 5

Legendary dropped to 2-3 on the season after last week’s loss to the Rox. Marc Pierre-Louis did his part as he turned in a 31-point, 10-rebound performance. With only a five-point loss and only four players playing, Legendary has to like their chances when their squad is at full strength. Unfortunately for them, it wasn't, and they drop to the sixth spot in our rankings.

7. Wolves (0-5) Last Week’s Ranking - 7

It was the second week in a row that the Wolves played with just four players.  Even in a loss, we still have to tip our hats to them, as they were able to keep it close again. Zach Fahey (31 points, 12 rebounds) shined for his team, as he and Isaac Remy (18 points, 10 rebounds) helped to keep things close for as long as they could. I have a feeling they’ll get a win soon, but for now, they sit in the seven spot.

8. Wildcats (0-5) Last Week’s Ranking - 8

The Wildcats winless drought continues, as they were handed a 15-point loss at the hands of Fire. A near double-double from both Christian Morneweck aka #TheGoldenChild and Tim Williams (21 points, 7 rebounds) just wasn't enough to get the win. Unlike the other winless team in Burlington, I don’t see things getting much brighter for this Wildcats team. They’ve got a couple weeks to get into the win column. We’ll see what happens.
