De Fall of Dem Boyz
DALLAS: Week 6 Power Rankings
By Travis Hill | Dallas Media Associate
1. Saggy Jammers
The Jammers have been obliterating their competition this season, and none of that changed this past week as the annihilated the Free Agents by 51 points, in a cakewalk 103-52 victory. Bryan Rollings continued to solidify himself as this season’s MVP frontrunner with 37 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists.
Rollings’s performance was supported by a pair of double-doubles as John Hopkins had 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Ryan Sea had 21 points and 10 rebounds to go with his 5 assists. Josh Whiddon also posted a solid all-around effort with 17 points, 9 rebounds, and 6 assists. The Jammers look to continue their winning was in their Week 6 match up against Side Hustle.
2. Scoregasms
With the return of Anson Bartlett, the Scoregasms have been on an absolute tear these past two weeks, knocking off both Dem Boyz and BYA. With their roster at full strength this team looks hard to beat, making their Week 7 rematch with the Saggy Jammers all that more appealing. In their Week 5 victory over BYA, Bartlett led the team with 21 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 5 steals. Look for Anson and crew to take care of business yet again against Side Hustle in Week 6.
3. BYA
BYA suffered a 21-point defeat at the hands of the Scoregasms this past week, and might be letting their age get to them as they were not able to control the pace as much as they often are with these younger teams. Still, they are still a top team in this league and will head into their Week 6 match up slightly favored over Dem Boys. BYA was led by Mike Swisher’s 13 points and 6 rebounds this past week.
4. Side Hustle
Side Hustle put forth a true team effort in their victory over the Shockers this week as each of their starters scored in double figures, led by Evan Pastorelle’s 22 points. In addition to Pastorelle’s efforts, Ari Stern scored 18, Spencer Barrett added 12, and Chris Martinez pitched in 11. Forrestt Thompson also posted a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. And Spencer Flores added 8 points off the bench. Side Hustle is slowly inching their way up in these power rankings and will look to continue their climb against the undefeated Saggy Jammers in Week 6.
5. The Shockers
The Shockers suffered another close defeat this past week. Trailing by one at half time, they ultimately lost by eight to Side Hustle. If this team can figure out how to close out games, and start turning these close loses into wins, they will find themselves in contender conversation, but until then, look for them to remain a middle to bottom of the pack team in the league. The Shockers were led by Martin Salinas’s 29 points, while Lorenza Marshall added 27 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. The Shockers have a tough match up agains the Scoregasms in Week 6.
6. Dem Boyz
Dem Boyz started the season atop these power rankings, yet just five weeks and three losses later they have now tumbled to No. 6. Their Week 5 match up brought on another tough loss against league newcomers The Morning Crew. Dem Boyz were without two of their starters - Maxx Nakwaasah and Jemarri Gunn - which probably didn’t help things. In their absence, Justin Mozley did the best he could to pick up the scoring slack as he put up 38 points. Connor Henry posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds, while Parris Curran showed flashbacks of his younger days as he put up 14 points to go along 9 rebounds. Dem Boyz hope to have their full roster going forward, and when that is the case, it is never good to count them out. They will look to turn things around in Week 6 against BYA.
7. The Morning Crew
The Morning Crew finally hit the win column with a quality win over defending champs Dem Boyz. This team seems to finally be putting all the pieces together, and if they can keep this up they should be able to scrape together several more wins before the playoffs. The Morning Crew was led by the all around effort of Josh Wormington who had 21 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. Jerod Frank led the team in scoring with 26 points, while grabbing 8 rebounds. The Morning Crew will look to keep this new win streak going with an easy week 6 match up against the Free Agents.
8. Free Agents
The Free Agents remain undefeated after getting embarrassed by the Saggy Jammers in Week 5. The lackluster performance will hopefully cause the Free Agents to find their competitive pride before their Week 6 match up against The Morning Crew. If not, it will be another long night for this Free Agent squad. The Free Agents were led in scoring by Trent Dean who put up 22 points in the loss.
