2019 HALL OF FAME NOMINEE: Jay Harris

Harris leading his team huddle.

“If winning isn’t everything, then why do we keep score?” A classic quote from Vince Lombardi that also helps explain why Jay Harris has been nominated for the Hall of Fame for the second straight year.

Harris has been nothing but a winner since he started playing in UH New York in the Winter of 2012. Need proof? Harris won the Syosset Vet League Championship in the Winter 2012 season, his first with UH. He’s gone on to win 15 championships over the course of 396 games; both are records for UH New York. He sits alone in sixth place in all of UH with his 15 championships.

He added two championships to his stacked trophy case since being nominated in 2018. He won the Syosset Vet League Championship in the Spring of 2018 and the Winter of 2019, averaging a double-double of 14.4 points and 12.2 rebounds if you combine those season averages.

He has career averages of 13.1 points and 9.4 rebounds on 49 percent shooting. His numbers don’t jump out at you, but there’s a reason the team’s that he captains keep on winning titles. His leadership on the court goes a long way, but will it be enough to get him inducted?
