Michael Carroll sets new Dallas record with obscure stat line
When a player records a double-double, the first assumption is that it came from scoring 10 or more points and grabbing 10 or more rebounds. If a guard registers one, maybe you assume it’s points and assists. It’s not often that blocks or steals get involved, but Michael Carroll had an absurdly dominant defensive performance last night that allowed him to register one of the more unique double-doubles I’ve seen.
Carroll had 21 rebounds and 14 blocks for Team Maxx, as they dominated the Free Agents in a 97-39 win.
The 14 blocks is a new single-game record in the Dallas Open League. The 21 rebounds is also an impressive feat, but that is still 26 rebounds shy of Cameron Spencer’s record of 47, set back in the Spring of 2013. Of the 21 rebounds Carroll had, 14 of them came on the defensive end, matching his number of blocks and displaying the dominance he had on that end of the floor.
Carroll did not add much in the scoring department, as he scored five points on 2-6 shooting from the field. That wasn’t a concern for Team Maxx though, as Maxx Nakwaasah scored 42 points, three more than the entire Free Agent team. Justin Mozley added 28 points, so the five points Carroll scored were just an added bonus.
The 14 blocks certainly skews Carroll’s averages this season, as he now averages eight blocks per game. That almost gets him to averaging a triple-double this season, as he’s averaging 10.5 points and 16 rebounds.
