BBQ Chicken suffers two close losses in one night despite Alex Jones' best efforts

Throughout an NBA season, teams are bound to suffer a few “schedule losses”. A lot of times these come during the second night of a back-to-back when teams have to travel from one city to another. Travel, lack of sleep, possible altitude factors and the lack of recovery time all can add up to a lackluster performance against a weaker team.

Back-to-backs are a little different in Ultimate Hoops, as teams have to play two games in the same night, often right after the previous game.

BBQ Chicken found themselves in a situation like this last night in the Fort Worth Draft League, as they played at 6:30 and then again at 9:30. They at least got some rest time between games, but some players have told me they prefer to play directly after their first game to avoid their muscles tightening up and having to warm up again. The main point is, whichever way you prefer to play in a back-to-back is likely irrelevant because no one wants to play in a back-to-back in general.

Unfortunately for BBQ Chicken, back-to-backs are a necessary evil of rec basketball, and they suffered from it last night. They came into Week 9 boasting a 5-1 record, just a half game behind WCG for the best record in the league. Their regular season record finished at 5-3 after two losses last night, which they suffered by a combined four points.

There are plenty of reasons why BBQ Chicken lost both games last night, but the play of Alex Jones wasn’t one of them. Here is a comparison of Jones’ scoring and shooting percentage from each game compared to the rest of his teammates.

62-59 loss to Run ‘N Gun

Jones: 23 points on 9-19 (47%) shooting

Rest of BBQ Chicken: 36 points on 15-43 (35%) shooting

64-63 loss to Not Fast, Just Furious

Jones: 27 points on 9-17 (53%) shooting

Rest of BBQ Chicken: 36 points on 17-50 (34%) shooting

Jones ended up averaging 25 points, 10.5 rebounds and three assists on 50% shooting from the field in the two games. It was a good night for him individually, but unfortunately a bad night for his team.
