Is Arizona's Waldrip the frontrunner for 2022 Player of the Year?

Waldrip is in the Top 5 of three major statistical categories in 2022

With Summer Season set to tip-off this week across UH Nation, we’ve officially reached 2022’s mid-point. So now is the time of year for UH analysts to start making predictions for December’s year-end awards.

Arizona’s Tanner Waldrip finds himself in many betting circles as the favorite to win the 2022 Player of the Year and the recently announced McKinsey Golfin Offensive Player of the Year.

Waldrip is currently the points leader for 2022 with 1,190 points. Following closely behind Waldrip is Sacramento’s Keenan Prince with 1,147 points. Prince averages 34.7 PPG (33 games) compared to Waldrip’s 24.8 PPG (48 games). If Prince can find a way to up his game count, he could see himself surpassing Waldrip on the points leaderboard in the second half of the year.

Waldrip’s case for Player of the Year is strong when you consider he is also Top 5 in Assists (currently #1 with 344 assists) and Steals (currently #3 with 99 steals).

Keep your eye on Arizona’s Terrell Suggs, however, who is currently #1 in rebounds (988), 5th in assists (293), and 15th in scoring (774 points).
