Team Preview: Will the fourth time be the charm for San Antonio?
By Pat Fridley, Ultimate San Antonio League Coordinator
For the 4th time, San Antonio will send a team to the desert. The first two iterations went under the SA Nation montage and were primarily made up of a collaboration of talent across the league.
At the most recent tournament, San Antonio was represented by Ether, an actual team that played together in the San Antonio OPEN, and not a San Antonio "All-Star Team." Since then, Ether has won three San Antonio Championships and is gunning for a four-peat. But first, Ether has unfinished business in Sin City as they will again represent San Antonio.
This year's roster brings back big man Chris Daniels, forward Chris Johnson, Jeremy Heath, Josh Williams, and guards Preston Jones and Joshua Feeney.
Daniels' elite post play, the two-way efforts from Johnson, Heath, and Williams, and the perimeter shooting provided by Jones and Feeney make up Ether's core attack. They have also added forward Dionelle Rucker and PG Noah Lovejoy.
Rucker, the slashing swingman coming off his first Open Championship in San Antonio, should provide a considerable boost. His finishing ability and two-way play will be a welcome addition to an already solid team.
Lovejoy was a rookie just last season. Though he's undersized, Noah is a solid point guard who can control the offensive flow, read the defense, and get everybody involved.
Daniels and Johnson will undoubtedly be relied on to be the catalysts of Ether's attack, and they'll need them to contend with the likes of Ball So Hard. Though Ether has one of the lowest "payrolls" of the tournament ($87 million PPV), they will give you the most bang for your buck.
