Shawn Warren's Elite Enter the Fall with a Target on their Backs
FORT WASHINGTON: Fall Season Preview
By Kevin White | Fort Washington League Coordinator
The Fall Ultimate Hoops season begins in Fort Washington. This season is all about who will dethrone the back-to-back champions. Shawn Warren’s Elite begin their quest for a three-peat. The team got even stronger by adding a familiar face in former player of the league Paul Curry. SWE lose sharpshooter Shaun Cooke but add a former MVP. They return everyone else including co-MVP Joel Weilandt. They have the target on their backs with many talented, hungry teams aiming for them.
Among those teams are Our Time, who lost to SWE in the championship. Our Time returns their core in Jermaine Bromell, Mike Erdos, Amaar Clemente and Kevin White. They added some good pieces in Newcomer to the league Justin Raber. They also added some shooting with Duane McCarthy and Trevor Marsh. They are a deeper team than they were last year which could make all the difference.
The Outlaws are back this season. David Hardy returns to captain after stepping down from captain for one season. He reunites with last season’s co-MVP Samuel Evans. Chris Kim adds another perimeter threat to this squad and rounds out there big three. Raymond Crawford, Chris Dall, Raymond Crawford and Jacques Louis will add good IQ and depth to this squad.
A new team to the league calls themselves Give N Go. They are captained by former UH Vet Steve Tolliver. They bring back to the league big man Ryan Paulson. The guards Chris Hauser and Ty Crawford are some very fast and scrappy players. Hakeem Brown also returns and will add much needed scoring to this team.
The Suburban Legends feature some of the leagues best shooters. They were missing an inside presence last season and hope to have addressed that issue with newcomer Carlos Chubb. They also picked up Anthony Siravo, another knockdown shooter. This team will be known for Hand down man down as they are led by Anish Nair, Jimmy Kieserman, and Naveen.
The final team is my sleeper pick of the year in the X Men. They added depth and leadership at every position. They will feature 6’6 big man Samuel Anyan. He’s a former NCAA Division 1 standout. First team performer Alex Weems is back with his sharp shooting as well as sniper Paul Nielsen. Brandon Boone and Kevin Dolce add good depth to the bench. Captain Rodney Firmin has something to prove with this squad.
