The Rox Dethrone $hmoney in a Controversial Win

Oh what a week we had in Burlington, as top seeds were being taken down left and right! First, a short-handed Dream Team was taken down by Legendary. In the upset of the night (and maybe of the season), The Rox were able to outlast $hmoney in overtime to improve to 5-1. The win wasn't without controversy, as apparently the books had $hmoney winning the game during regulation. However, the era was caught too late, and it ended up being costly. The win caused a ripple in the standings, as the top for power rankings were shaken up. With one week left in the regular season, were excited to bring this one to a close and gear up for the playoffs.

1. The Rox (5-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 2

That’s FIVE in a row for The Rox! You take on the top seed and beat them, you deserve the No. 1 spot in the power rankings. $hmoney was dismantled by the duo of Michael Albert (22 points, 18 rebounds) and Thomas Ugbesia (22 points, 9 rebounds). Marquis Ensley (18 points, 4 rebounds) also had a big game for the Rox. The win helped them improve to a tie for the league's best record .

2. $hmoney (5-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 1

Only thing that took a hit for $hmoney was their record. They know they should have the win, and that’s all that matters. Stephen Prescod (32 points, 10 rebounds, 5 steals) led the way for $hmoney, while Jason LaPlanche chipped in 16 points, 11 assists, and 5 steals. $hmoney drops down a notch in the standings because of the loss, but it can be argued who is still the top dog in Burlington, especially with $hmoney almost coming out with the win in OT with just three players left to compete.

3. Fire (4-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

Fire has been on fire as of late, as the team has found their way to their third straight win. Although they beat a short-handed Wolves team, they made sure to win the game convincingly. Three players finished with at least 14 rebounds. Chris Brown (27 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists) Jahleel Moise (18 points, 14 rebounds, 6 assists) and Calvin Pinney (23 points, 15 rebounds) were a force to be reckoned with as they helped improve their team record to 4-2 on the season.

4. Dream Team (4-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 3

The Secret to stopping Thomas “Boston Bane” Morales is apparently making sure his teammates don’t show up. The team was dismantled, as they couldn’t overcome being short handed. Morales (25 points, 14 rebounds) played well but according to reports, it may be the last time we see him in a DT Uniform. But it’s a team game, and when your team doesn’t show up, you take L’s.

5. Reformation (3-3) Last Week’s Ranking - 5

It was the Jean Romulus (32 points, 15 rebounds, 6 assists) show last week, as his big night almost single handedly destroyed the Wildcats. Reformation looked good, really good. All five players scored in double digits, including a surprise big game from UH rookie, Bilal “B-Rab” Rabbani (22 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists). Good solid win for Reformation who needed this type of breakout game.  

6. Legendary (3-3)  Last Week’s Ranking - 6

It seems like every time I look up, Legendary has a new name filling up the state sheet. They found a way to get a win and beat up on a short-handed Dream Team. This was a win of the #LeastLikelies, Johann Benitez (36 points) was the team’s high scorer after hitting 10 shots from behind the arc. Robert Bagdasarian (25 points, 5 assists) and Marc Pierre-Louis (18 points, 13 rebounds) helped guide legendary to a big win.

7. Wolves (0-6) Last Week’s Ranking - 7

At this point, the Wolves may just have to accept the fact they are a four man show or #4ManNoShow.  The Fahey’s continued to carry the Wolves on their back. Zach Fahey (28 points, 13 rebounds) and Shawn Fahey (23 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists) combined for 51 points and 18 rebounds.  Isaac Remy (22 points, 6 rebounds) wasn’t too far behind. The team has heart, but they’re in a tough spot..

8. Wildcats (0-6) Last Week’s Ranking - 8

The Wildcats are seemingly the walking dead at this point. With two games left in the season, they have yet to find a way to get a win. Christian “Golden Child” Morneweck (18 points, 10 rebounds) and Tim “T-Dubb” Williams (19 points, 5 assists) were the lone stars in the win. Hang in there cats, it’s almost over.
