FOLSOM: Week 5 Power Rankings

By James Doran | Folsom League Coordinator

1. Game Time (3-1)

Last Week: Lost 68-108 to The Ballbarians

Game Time was without its former MVP Tyler Alexander, and looked lost without him. The Ballbarians jumped out to an early lead and didn’t look back, giving Game Time its first loss. That being said, everyone in the gym knew it would be a entirely different game with Alexander in the lineup. We will be keeping Game Time at the top of the rankings, but they had better learn how to play quality ball together when Tyler is out of the game.

2. Locker Room Talk (3-1)

Last Week: Won 76 -75 vs Scrappy Hour

Media pundits everywhere thought LRT’s game against Scrappy Hour would be the only blowout of the week. It ended up coming down to the final possession. The reason? It’s tough to say, but I believe Locker Room Talk just mentally checked out of this one after halftime. The first 22 minutes was all LRT as they poured in 39 points and put on a show for the fans with four dunks. Defense was an afterthought in the second half as they allowed Scrappy Hour to creep their way into the game, allowing 48 second half points. Still, it didn’t seem anyone on the team was too flustered by the comeback, they had just better not be lackadaisical like that come playoff time. LRT has a nice looking schedule to continue their winning streak.

3. Ballbarians (3-1)

Last Week: Won 108 – 68 vs Game Time

As mentioned, the Ballbarians took advantage of a MVP-less Game Time lineup and cruised to a 40 point win. But lets give them some credit. The Ballbarians shot the leather off the ball, pouring in 18 total 3s on 50 percent shooting. They showed how dangerously hot they can get, and if they repeat that kind of shooting they should beat anybody. Scott Lacrosse had the game of his career by almost going for a triple double. He finished with 25 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Let’s see how legit the Ballbarians are in their next matchup against the Expansions.

4. Expansions (2-2)

Last Week: Won 102 – 71 vs Chuck Taylors

Expansions were another team clicking on all cylinders last week. They hung up 102 in a blow out win against the Chuck Taylors. Three players scored twenty or more points in the contest. They also have a budding star in the making by the name of Alex DiManno. Alex had a huge triple double in the game finishing with 34 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. The 44.6 PPR was also a career best. Expansions have a tough two game schedule coming up against the Ballbarians and then Locker Room Talk. Scouts will be watching closely they will be taken very seriously from here on out.

5. Chuck Taylor’s (1-3)

Last Week: Lost 71 – 102

Chuck Taylor’s game against the Expansions is just one you take the game film and throw straight in the garbage. Absolutely nothing was falling for them in the contest. Without Mark Payne, the team shot 17-61, or 28 percent. They also allowed 102 points. Fans were hoping Dan Barbers breakout performance against Scrappy Hour would be the rally cry the team needed, now they are back to the drawing board. Let’s hope they can right the ship in their next game against Locker Room Talk.

6. Scrappy Hour (0-4)

Last Week: Lost 75 – 76 vs Locker Room Talk

Scrappy Hour is way too good to be winless at this point in the season. They showed their grit in their game against Locker Room Talk, who some say is the best team in the league. They would go down by as much as 17 before storming back in the second half. If they can find a way to play a full 44 minutes like they did in that second half, they will surely hang some wins on the board. Nick Armocido filled in nicely for the injured Ron Jacbos, scoring some clutch buckets at the end and also grabbing a Jacobs-esque 13 rebounds. Vuk Mitic also returned and although didn’t fill up the stat sheet, got the team playing some hard nosed defense in the game. They get a chance to make a statement against Game Time this week.
