Time For the Heroes to Shake Off the Rust
FOLSOM: Week 2 Predictions
Written by Cory Gregersen | Folsom Media Associate
6:30pm - Game Time (1-0) vs Venom (1-0)
Led by a sizzling 47-point performance by Zack Jacobs, Game Time outpaced The Godfather’s to win their season opener last week. They look to continue their offensive momentum this week with their core players of Jacobs, Tyler Alexander, and Billy Blankenship. This squad has shown improved chemistry, and I believe they can be one of the top teams this season. Venom is also coming off a hot start, taking down the defending champs Tune Squad as James Doran went off from beyond the arc to splash in 30 points. This game will be high scoring, look out for Jeret Arnaz and Randy Stout to step up for Venom as they have shown a high basketball IQ. Venom has a chance, but I see Game Time feeding Alexander down low for endless points in the paint.
Prediction: Game Time 91, Venom 84
7:30 p.m. - Godfathers (0-1) vs Jokers Henchmen (1-0)
As one of the tallest teams ever to be assembled in Folsom UH history, you can say the Godfathers have a high ceiling. They showed sparks of greatness last week, but eventually took the loss in Week 1. The biggest concern I have for this team is health. If Tim Szatko can be on the floor each week, I can see this team on a banner. Joker’s Henchman are led by Ron Jacobs, Sanj Begai, and Bryan Todd. They led the league in rebounds Week 1 and utilized many second chance opportunities to get the victory over the Avengers. In this particular matchup, I don't see the Henchmen getting as many chances down low, and they must rely on the outside shooting of Bryan Todd and Roger Larson. I predict The Godfather's win comfortably, thanks to huge games from Craig Gunderson and Tim Szatko.
Prediction: The Godfathers 68, Joker's Henchman 52
8:30 p.m. - Avengers (0-1) vs Tune Squad (0-1)
The defending champs returned most of their lineup from last year, but were shocked last week when they only put up 57 points in defeat. Joe Visman will continue to be aggressive on both ends of the floor, but look for Masoud Nafey and Mike Martz to be the difference makers this week. The Avengers are coming into this game looking for offensive consistency, as they struggled to make plays Week 1. Look for Erik Kagan to move the ball around and find open shots for sharpshooters Dan Barber and Matt Pederson. Whichever team can breakout of their offensive slump first wins. Unfortunately The Avengers are a little short-handed this week so I have to give the prediction to Tune Squad.
Prediction: Tune Squad 75, The Avengers 67
