Who is having a better season in Champions: Jailin Allen or Shannon Haney?
There are two players in Champions who are putting together seasons that are among the best at a national level.
Shannon Haney has compiled a PPR of 42.3, the highest in Champions and the 13th-highest across UH Nation. Jailin Allen has compiled a PPR of 37.7, runner-up to Haney in Champions and 34th-highest in UH Nation.
PPR is not the end-all, be-all stat to decide who is a better player. Let’s take a dive into both of their stats, their team success and come to a verdict. We’ll start with Haney.
In three games this season, Haney has put up 34.3/12.7/2.3 with shooting splits of 61/17/80. He’s second in the league in scoring, second in the league in rebounding and his 3.0 blocks per game leads the league. Really, you could say he’s first in points and rebounds too, as the only player ahead of him is Antonio Hunt, who’s only played in one game this season.
He’s helped lead Trifecta to a 3-1 record, but he holds a personal 3-0 record as he was not in attendance for their sole loss this season. Based on the numbers and the results, he’s the most dominant big in the league, and his consistency shows that. In his three games this season, he’s put up 35, 33 and 35.
In four games this season, Allen has put up 33.8/11.5/7.0 with shooting splits of 53/36/70. He’s just behind Haney in scoring, fifth in the league in rebounding, third in assists and tied for sixth in steals with 2.0 per game.
Despite coming off a championship season with Neva Scared, Allen has not been able to replicate the team success so far this season. He’s now playing with Bulletts, an almost completely different roster, who started the season 0-3. They picked up their first win on Wednesday, thanks in large part to Allen. He put up 34/16/6 (with seven of those rebounds coming on the offensive end) on 11-19 shooting.
Allen has been everything for Bulletts this season, as he leads them in points, rebounds, assists and steals. Haney leads Trifecta in points, rebounds and blocks. They’re both the most valuable players on their teams, and right now, the two most valuable players in the league.
They faced off against each other in Week 1, with Haney and Trifecta earning a 100-94 win. Allen went off for 40/11/8 on 13-25 shooting in the loss, while Haney had 35 points, nine rebounds and three blocks on 12-19 shooting.
We’ll see where they both end up at the end of the season, but based on similar numbers and production the edge has to go to Haney for the wins, the personal undefeated record and the head-to-head win over Allen.
