Who did last night's top performers dress up as for Halloween?

Kevin Bowman (18)

Kevin Bowman (18)

A lot of regularly scheduled Thursday leagues took last night off due to Halloween. There were a few leagues however who still played and celebrated Halloween by chucking pumpkins, not carving them.

Looking through the top five performers from across UH Nation last night got me thinking about which NBA players each of them played like last night. Halloween is the one night a year we get to wear a costume without judgement, and these players chose to disguise themselves as NBA superstars.

Kevin Bowman

Stat line: 47/12/8 on 14-24 shooting

Bowman played two games in the Scottsdale Draft League last night, and in the second game of a back-to-back, Bowman put on a James Harden costume. I haven’t seen any pictures of him rocking Harden’s beard, but his stats certainly replicate what the former MVP is capable of. Since the 2017-18 season, when Harden won the MVP, he has never replicated this exact stat line, but he’s gotten close. In that span he’s scored 47 or more points 18 times, grabbed 12 or more rebounds four times and had eight or more assists 82 times. Unfortunately for Bowman, despite the great performances last night, Chain Net Gang lost both of their games.

Kevin Thompson

Stat line: 41/11/2 on 18-25 shooting

Thompson was on fire in the Fridley Rec-Plus League last night, helping lead Omar Tires to a dramatic 91-89 win. His combination of high-volume scoring, double-digit rebounds and efficient shooting was similar to Anthony Davis. Davis is quite familiar with games like this, as he’s had eleven games where he’s had at least 41 points and 11 rebounds since the start of the 2017-18 season. All of those games were with the Pelicans, and they went 11-0 in those games. It syncs up with Thompson, who got the win during his great performance last night.

Eddie Peterson

Stat line: 35/9/7 on 14-22 shooting

Peterson had a well-rounded game last night in the Champions Open League, helping Lake Houston Live improve their record to 6-0 this season. That stat line reminds me of Kevin Durant, as he can put up 35 with ease, and he’s one of the most efficient scorers in the history of the league. Durant has had a game with at least 35 points, nine rebounds and seven assists six times over the past two seasons.

Derek Hamner

Derek Hamner

Stat line: 33/12/6 on 13-23 shooting

Hamner went off last night in a dominant 100-67 win over FOB Five in the Fridley Rec-Plus League. His stat line reminded me of Russell Westbrook, although that would’ve been a more apt comparison if Hamner was able to get a triple-double. Westbrook has had at least 33 points, 12 rebounds and six assists nine times since the 2017-18 season, and he’s come close dozens of other times.

Rhett Ballard

Stat line: 33/11/5 on 15-23 shooting

Ballard had almost an identical stat line to Hamner, as he was only one rebound and one assist away. I could stick with the Westbrook comparison, but that would be boring. Let’s switch it up to some new blood in the NBA and avoid all of these old veterans. Ballard’s stats remind me of one of my favorite new players in the NBA, Luka Doncic. Doncic has had only one game in his young NBA career where he’s had at least 33 points, 11 rebounds and five assists, and I’m sure he’ll have dozens more over the course of his career. Unfortunately for both Doncic and Ballard, both of their performances with these absurd stat lines came in losses.
