Luke Settergren steals the show in matchup between UH Hall of Famers
I had November 7 circled on my calendar for quite a while once I saw the Fridley schedule released at the start of the fall season.
This was the day that Minnesota Elite was scheduled to play the defending Fridley champs, Wolves. Not only would this be a matchup between two of the best teams in Minnesota, but it features two first-ballot Hall of Famers in Paris Kyles and Ryan Jansen.
The game finally happened last night, and the result is not at all what I expected, as Minnesota Elite absolutely torched the Wolves 124-79.
Kyles had 22 points, 16 rebounds, six assists and five steals, but he was not the standout player for Minnesota Elite. That title belonged to Luke Settergren, who scored a career-high 47 points on 17-23 shooting from the field and 11-14 from deep. His previous career-high was when he scored 43 points in a 118-103 loss in the Summer of 2015 in the St. Louis Park Open League.
There wasn’t one bad performance from Minnesota Elite, as the lowest PPR recorded from their starting five was a 19.2. They shot 61% from the field and an astounding 24-37 (65%) from deep. Ironically, the only player who shot under 50% from the field was Kyles, who shot 10-21.
Jansen did not have as good of a night, as scored six points on seven shot attempts and finished with a PPR of -2.4. It was not a typical performance from Jansen or the Wolves, but regular season woes are nothing new to them. They’ve won the past two championships in Fridley, and they’ve had at least three regular season losses to lead up to those title runs. I won’t be surprised if these teams end up playing a more significant game against each other in December.
