2019 HALL OF FAME NOMINEE: Michael Mastro
Mastro is often referred as the G.O.A.T of Ultimate Hoops New York, and for good reason. He’s led Unstuck to 12 championships in Syosset and Garden City, ranging from Spring 2011 to Spring 2017. Now that New York has shifted into draft leagues, Mastro has still been able to win titles without some of his regular teammates. He won back-to-back championships in 2018 in Garden City as the captain of Jeurys Familia, giving him 14 total titles.
He has the tenacity to rebound like Dennis Rodman, the skill to score from anywhere on the floor and the vision to get his teammates involved. That all adds up to him averaging 24.3 points, 15.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game over the course of his Ultimate Hoops career. What stands out the most about his statistical resume is the 5,107 rebounds he’s grabbed, making him the most prolific rebounder in Ultimate Hoops history. He has 336 more rebounds than Chris Maher, who’s second all time in rebounds, and Mastro has done it in 282 fewer games.
Members of the UH New York community have said that Mastro would be a first-ballot Ultimate Hoops New York Hall of Famer if they were to ever have one. He had a chance to be a first-ballot UH Hall of Famer last year and missed the cut. He started his 2019 campaign by having the highest PPR (46.0) in UH Nation in the winter season. Will Mastro’s second chance as a nominee earn him a spot in the Class of 2019?
