Who will finish with more career assists at the end of the season: Donald Didlake or Kerry Knoll?

As of Monday, August 12, Donald Didlake leads Kerry Knoll on the all-time assists leaderboard. Didlake has 2,727 assists, good for seventh-most in UH. Knoll has the eighth-most with 2,726.

By the end of the week, Knoll will sit in seventh, but will that last into the Fall season? Let’s take a look at the numbers.

Didlake currently plays in one league, the Gilbert Vet League. He’s averaging 8.6 assists per game this season, up from his career average of 6.4. Knoll plays in two leagues, the Summerlin Rec and Summerlin Vet Leagues. He’s averaging 5.3 assists per game, up from his career average of 4.8. Since he plays in two leagues, that means he averages 10.6 assists per week.

If the averages play out, Didlake will have 25.8 (we’ll round up to 26) assists in the final three games of the regular season in Gilbert. He’s guaranteed one playoff game, which would put his total up to 34. His team, Wheelchair Mafia, is 2-3 (in third place of five teams) which, on paper, would have them as the underdog in the semifinal matchup. We all know seeds and records don’t matter in the playoffs, but for arguments sake, we’ll have them losing that game. That would give Didlake 2,761 assists at the end of the season.

Knoll has eight regular season games remaining this season across both leagues. That would give him 42.4 assists (rounded down to 42) before the playoffs start. That already surpasses Didlake, but if you add in his two playoff games, his remaining season total rises to 53. His rec team is in eighth place out of nine teams, but that would put them into the play-in game before the quarterfinals start, and they would be favorites to win. His vet team is in third place out of eight teams, which would have them losing in the semifinals. If everything plays out accordingly, that would give Knoll four playoff games, increasing his total to 64 assists. That would put his career total to 2,790 at the end of the season, 29 more than Didlake.

Knoll would certainly be the betting favorite, as he is on pace to play in 12 more games this season compared to Didlake’s four, but Didlake has more potential to skew his numbers with a big game or two. Didlake has had games ranging from six assists to 13 assists this season, so there’s a chance for a couple more double-digit performances. Knoll has had games ranging from four assists to seven. He’s even had five assists in all three rec games he’s played, so his numbers will likely remain constant.
