Everything you need to know before the New York City National Tournament

The New York City National Tournament is set to take place over the weekend of August 23-25. Whether you’re playing in the tournament, attending it or plan to follow it from home, here is everything you need to know to get prepared.

The tournament will kick off on Friday, August 23, with a kickoff party at the Sky Deck pool from 7-9 p.m (all times Eastern). There will be a check-in table for captains to receive gift bags that will include jerseys for the entire team. I will be conducting interviews with attendees that will air on Facebook live on our official Ultimate Hoops account.

Games will officially tip off at 9 a.m. on Saturday, August 24, with the final pool play game scheduled to start at 6 p.m. The pool play schedule will start to be announced tomorrow, with one game being announced on each weekday from August 8-21.

Knockout games will begin on Sunday, August 25, at 8 a.m. There will be two play-in games, followed by the quarterfinals, which are set to begin at 10 a.m. This will all culminate with the championship game, set to start at 4:30 p.m. Every game will be live-streamed on the official Ultimate Hoops Facebook page.

Every team will advance to Sunday, with the 10 seeds being decided by record and then point differential. So a team that goes 2-0 with a point differential of +6 will have a higher seed than a team that goes 1-1 with a point differential of +19. The only exception to this will be head-to-head record for two teams that finish 1-1. If two teams finish 1-1 and played each other, the team that won their matchup will have a higher seed, regardless of point differential of the other game played. The 7-10 seeds will have to play in a play-in game to reach the quarterfinals. The 8 vs. 9 matchup will be played at 8 a.m. and the 7 vs. 10 game will be played at 9 a.m.
