Brandon Walker and Donald Didlake add to their Hall of Fame resumes

If you look at everything that Brandon Walker and Donald Didlake have achieved in their UH careers, it may surprise you that last night was the first vet championship for both of them. Walker and Didlake led Wheelchair Mafia to a 94-76 over Renegades in the Summer 2019 Gilbert Vet League championship.

It was clear that those two were motivated to get a vet championship onto their resumes, as they each had triple-doubles to lead Wheelchair Mafia to the title. Walker put up 27-11-10, Didlake had 19-10-10 and they combined to shoot 56% from the field and 47% from deep.

This puts an exclamation point on what has been a dominant season for both Walker and Didlake. Here are both of their season averages:

Walker: 25.4/8/6.4 with shooting splits of 46/42/82

Didlake: 17.8/7.9/8.4 with shooting splits of 51/44/71

Walker and Didlake were the two top performers across UH Nation yesterday.

It is the ninth title for Walker and 12th for Didlake, tying him with Fred Dudley for the fourth-most in UH Arizona history. This now creates a logjam for possible Arizona representatives in the Hall of Fame. Walker has been nominated for the past two years, while Dudley and Didlake have not gotten enough votes to be considered yet.

Walker has always had the resume to get in considering his work off the court as a media associate, but scoring over 9,000 points and adding a vet title in the past week only bolsters his chances. Then you have Dudley and Didlake, who each have added to their legacies this year. The national title for Dudley can’t be understated, as it was arguably the most historic championship in UH history, and one that Dudley was a huge part of. Didlake adding a vet title will help, but it doesn’t have nearly the significance of Dudley’s national title. His overall resume is pretty equal to Dudley’s, and may be more impressive, but I think the national title puts Dudley slightly ahead.

There’s a chance all three get nominated next year, but there’s no way all three will be able to get inducted. It may take three years (or more) for all three to get inducted when you consider the amount of other deserving nominees there are waiting to get in as well. Make no mistake, Walker, Didlake and Dudley will all get inducted, it’ll just take some time.
