Sheldon Hagigal and Brandon Wilson dominate in overtime win over Lottery Picks
I wrote an article last week about the great game that Matthew Mehler had in Garden City. This week, I’m highlighting Sheldon Hagigal and Brandon Wilson, who also had great games in Garden City last night.
Both of those games came against Lottery Picks, who have had a tough start to the season. They were able to force overtime against Fallen Order last night, but still came up short, 94-89, falling to 0-2 this season.
I should say, Lottery Picks lost to Hagigal and Wilson, which may be more accurate than saying they lost to Fallen Order. Those two combined to score 78 out their team’s 94 points, combining to shoot 28-44 (64%) from the field. Wilson completed his box score with 13 rebounds and 10 assists, while Hagigal had 10 rebounds, four assists and seven steals.
Coming into this season, Anthony Leo told me Stephen Nwaukoni was the new player in Garden City to look out for. Nwaukoni has been great, averaging 29.5 points and 13.5 rebounds on 50% shooting from the field and 45% from deep through two games, but Hagigal may be the better UH rookie thus far. He’s averaging 40 points and 10.5 rebounds on 59% shooting from the field and 43% from deep.
The Lottery Picks now sit at 0-2, but they should feel better about this week’s loss, as they forced Fallen Order into overtime and Khadim Ndiaye was in attendance and he played great. He put up 37 points on 14-25 (56%) from the field and 7-13 (54%) from deep. They also had three players get double-doubles, as Michael Frey had 19 points and 10 rebounds, Rashawn Church had 14 points and 10 assists and Justin Lambert had 12 points and 10 assists.
Starting with two losses isn’t ideal, but they should be able to turn it around based off last night’s performance. Now they’ll have to try and stop getting articles wrote about other players’ great games when they play against them.
