Zack Fahey's 46 points leads the Shockers to their first win this season
Zack Fahey played in his 36th Ultimate Hoops game last night, and he did something he’s very used to doing: he scored a bunch of points. Fahey scored 46 points in his 2020 debut, helping the Shockers defeat the Bricklayers 99-94 in the Burlington Draft League.
Fahey has averaged 33.9 points per game in his career thus far. His lowest-scoring game was 17 points, while his highest-scoring game was 55 points. He’s scored 40 or more points in a game nine times. He’s scored all of these points while shooting 52% from the field and 37% from deep.
While scoring has been routine for Fahey, it hasn’t translated to many wins. Going into last night’s game, Fahey had a career record of 11-24, good for a winning percentage of .314.
The Shockers started the season 0-1 with Fahey not in attendance. He was vital in getting their season back to .500, as he scored 46% of his team’s points last night.
This is only a one-game sample size, but I’d imagine Fahey’s winning percentage will increase this season, as he’s playing alongside Marco Banegas-Flores. Banegas-Flores has played in 38 career games, just two more than Fahey, and he has a career record of 29-9 (including a 2-1 record in national tournaments), good for a winning percentage of .763. He also has a championship to his name, which he won last winter.
You can see why he wins so much when you look at his stats from last night: 27 points, six rebounds and six assists on 10-15 shooting from the field, 3-6 from deep and 4-4 from the free-throw line.
Pairing the high-volume scoring of Fahey with a pure point guard like Banegas-Flores will be a scary proposition for opposing teams, and especially opposing backcourt defenders. They could be a lethal duo that helps get Fahey more wins, and possibly his first championship.
