In the second half of season 5 of Breaking Bad, Jesse officially loses his patience with Walt. He’s been by his side for four-and-a-half seasons, cooking meth, executing multiple murders and remaining loyal to his partner despite the horrible things they’ve done together.

In the season 5 episode “Rabid Dog”, Jesse finds out that Walt is the one who poisoned Brock, the six-year-old son of Jesse’s girlfriend, Andrea. This is the final straw for Jesse, as he can no longer justify working with someone so immoral. He heads to Walt’s house with the intention of burning it to the ground.

Walt’s brother-in-law, Hank, a DEA agent, gets to Jesse first, trying to convince him to put out the lighter he’s about to commit arson with.

Hank: “Walt's a bastard. Secret's out. We'll talk about it. But I need you to put out the lighter, okay? Look, Jesse... Jesse, I don't want to kill you. And you don't wanna be killed. So put it out.”

Jesse then devastatingly yells one of the most iconic (and memeable) lines in the entire series.

I’d imagine that’s how a lot of players in the Gilbert Draft League felt when they looked at last night’s draft board and saw that Christian Bower was somehow able to draft Adam Bickerstaff once again.

The dynamic duo has played together seven times in draft leagues in the past, boasting a record of 61-17 in those seven seasons, making the Final Four five times, the championship game three times and two titles won. It doesn’t seem to matter who these two have playing with them; if they’re playing together, wins will follow.

What makes matters worse for the rest of the league if that Bickerstaff was not Bower’s first-round pick. With the fifth-overall pick, Bower snagged UH Arizona legend Fred Dudley. Their backcourt adding Dudley creates all sorts of mismatches for opposing defenses and spaces the floor even more.

If you look at the complete roster Bower drafted (excluding third-round pick Shabaz King-Lewis and seventh-round pick Juan Perales, who are making their UH debuts this season), each player averages 19.7 points or more in their career in draft leagues. Maybe that will cause some chemistry problems, as multiple players are going to have to sacrifice shots, but I don’t think that’ll be an issue. When Bower and Bickerstaff are together, it works far more often than not.

Most of UH Arizona had a similar reaction, as their were some questions being thrown around once the draft board was posted in the UH Arizona Facebook group.

Terry Riley: “Cristian Bower and Adam Bickerstaff pulled it off once again lol.”

Steve Bertrand: “Blake Nash went that late too? Wtf lol.”

Emery Range: “Christian Bower’s team not even fair lol how you let this slide Chris Walker?”

The fact that Bower was able to get Bickerstaff in the second round makes me raise some serious questions about the other GMs drafting. I can understand not taking Bickerstaff if you don’t feel like he fits in with how you want to play, but sometimes you have to be petty and take someone just to screw over another team, especially when you’ve seen the results of these two playing together in the past.

We’ll see how things shake out once March comes around, but I’d put my money on Bower and Bickerstaff playing deep in the draft tournament once again this season.
