I’m not an expert in win probability, nor can I calculate it myself, but I’d imagine when a team is down four points with 20 seconds left, their win probability has to be pretty low.

That’s the situation the Bricklayers found themselves in last night against the Shockers in the Burlington Draft League. They had the ball with 20 seconds left, trailing 90-86, in need of a quick bucket. Naturally, the Bricklayers got the ball into Terrell Hollins’ hands, who leads the team with 24.9 points per game this season and scored a team-high 31 last night. His two biggest points from the night came when he drove straight to the hoop and finished through a Tim West foul, bringing the Bricklayers’ deficit to two points, with a chance to go down to one with Hollins at the line.

Fortunately for the Bricklayers, Hollins missed the free throw, and Chris Frissore was able to corral the offensive rebound and reposition himself in the corner. The ball recycled itself to Hollins, who the defense took note of, and then he instinctively found Frissore open in the corner, who buried the open 3 to put the Bricklayers up one.

“It felt pretty good, I felt like MJ honestly,” Frissore said in a post-game interview. “That’s why I wear 23,” he said somewhat sarcastically.

Frissore drained the shot with 12 seconds left, and the Bricklayers were able to hang on for a 91-90 victory. Frissore finished the game with 13 points on 6-9 shooting from the field, adding five rebounds and four assists.

The win sends the Bricklayers to the championship game on Monday. Their opponent will be decided tonight, as The Shockers will play Made Men in the losers bracket to decided who will play in the championship game against the Bricklayers.
