Suek's Career-High 42 Points Advances FOB Five Into Minnesota Quarterfinals
FOB Five, a storybook franchise in Fridley, coincidentally came into the combined rec-plus playoffs with the five-seed, setting them up with a matchup against Straight Shooters in the round of 16.
In another turn of coincidence, FOB Five ended up playing with only five players, as Bryant Marmol, Izzy Elkaffas and William Elwell, all mainstays for FOB Five over the years, were not in attendance. That put an emphasis on the five starters to be productive, and while multiple players stepped up for FOB Five, no one had a bigger impact in leading them to a 94-81 win than Joe Suek.
Suek absolutely dominated the Straight Shooters, going off for a career-high 42 points on 16-21 shooting from the field and 8-13 from deep, meaning he shot a perfect 8-8 from inside the arc. To add to the scoring, Suek added 20 rebounds, four steals and three blocks, showcasing his skills on both ends of the floor.
The 42 points overtakes Suek’s previous career-high of 41 points, which he scored in a 107-94 win on March 8, 2018 against Akway’s Sports Barbershop. This performance also came in a playoff game in Fridley when FOB Five only had five players, so there’s clearly a trend with Suek.
The 20 rebounds is not a career-high, as Suek once grabbed 23 boards in a game back on March 23, 2011 (Suek loves playing in March) for the Blazers in a 93-87 win in the Bloomington South Rec League.
