Can Long Island legends Koerner, Harris and Mastro push RTG past the nation's best?
by Jay Harris, Syosset League Coordinator
Ken Koerner has put together an All-Star squad to head into New York City this weekend to bring a National Title back to Life Time Syosset.
Not only has Ken partnered with Ultimate Hoops Hall of Famer Mike Mastro, in this quest, but the starting line-up for RTG will also include an essential clone of Kyrie Irving in Donte Howell, a triple-double machine in 6’7” Jerrell “Tex” Harris, and the ultimate slasher and current summer league MVP favorite, Steve Gurin.
Size off the bench will be key as 6’6” Sky Khaleel could present serious match-up issues for opponents, and the uber-athletic Malik McGriff can come in and guard any position. A potential future Hall of Famer, Jay Harris, has recently been added to the roster, as has veteran sharpshooter Craig Rallo, and they will surely add some important guile to this already stacked team.
The ultimate champion, Julio Vidal, has agreed to a 10-day coaching contract and will be shouting orders from the bench throughout the tournament.
Captain Koerner went to the Crash Davis school of quotes as he spoke of “taking it one game at a time,” and while he recognized that his team might be a little undersized, he contends that RTG “will get up and down the floor fast to get lots of shots up.”
We will be a very entertaining team to watch!
