Ankle Bullies Separate Themselves from the Pack
METROWEST REC: Week 4 Power Rankings
The Ankle Bullies are the last undefeated team remaining in our Metrowest Rec league. At 3-0, the pesky, fast-paced team is alone as the top dog, numero uno in the standings. Amidst a Week 2 upset, we’ve got some movement in our power rankings. Check out how our teams rank below:
1. ANKLE BULLIES | 3-0
We’d been waiting for the night Ankle Bullies would finally realize that their offense needs to run through 6’5 big man Michael Biddlecom. Last Wednesday was that night. Biddlecome (20 points, 17 rebounds) put the team on his back and carried them to a hard-fought win. Aside from Biddlecom, only Roberto Bonilla (13 points) scored in double figures for the Ankle Bullies. But they’re still sitting pretty at 3-0 heading into a showdown with the Wildcats in Week 4.
2. WILDCATS | 2-1 (3)
The Wildcats are a buzzer beater away from being 3-0 and came out motivated in Week 3. Stephen Dion (18 points, 16 rebounds, 6 assists) is establishing himself as the best player in the league and with backcourt running mates Jonathan Waters (12 points, 4 assists) and Quentin Nowland (20 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists) shooting the ball the way they did in Week 3, the Wildcats will be tough to beat. We’ll break down their crucial Week 4 matchup in the forthcoming predictions.
3. OLD GAME CHANGERS | 2-1 (2)
Week 3 was a tough one for OGC. They had no subs and lost Tommy Rogers (17 rebounds) down the stretch to fouls. With nothing left in the tank they dropped a 53-52 OT game against Tapped Out. So why the drop in the rankings? It’s a tossup between OGC and Wildcats for second place, but the latter’s star players have been a bit more impressive. With Brendan Connolly and Adam Rosario expected to return to the lineup in Week 4, expect OGC to be primed to move back up the power rankings next week.
4. HUSTLE | 1-2
Hustle added some talent in AJ Narayanan, but his addition wasn’t enough in Week 3 as they fell to the Ankle Bullies in a close game. We could see, however, that with more speed on the court, Jeff Raymond and crew are darkhorse contenders. Once the team’s chemistry is ironed out and Brendan Andersen returns to form, watch out!
5. TAPPED OUT | 1-2
Though they gave their fans a heart attack, Tapped Out escaped Week 3 with a one-point overtime win. John Finnerty (17 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists) led the charge with Steven Gum (13 points, 8 rebounds) en route to their upset win. Now that the team has a W under their belt, their confidence is renewed and they’ve got a good shot at making it two in a row come Week 4.
6. UNCLE DREW ALL STARS | 0-3
The last winless team in the league, UDAS is struggling. They played tough in Week 3, but ran into the Wildcats who some argue is the best team in the league. On the bright side, Warren Lane (18 points, 23 rebounds, 5 steals, 3 blocks) showed out in a major way and proved he can knock down the deep ball by connecting on four of eight threes. Additionally, Tedi George and Michael Morris were absent. This team can play, we’re just still waiting to see it. They’ve all but guaranteed they won’t be receiving a first-round bye come playoff time. But the season is young and they’ve got time to right the ship.
