BLOOMINGTON SOUTH: Week 4 Power Rankings

1. Guerrillas (2-0)

Last week: (3), W vs Muskies, 82-64

The Guerrillas had another impressive performance for their second win of the season. Their defense was excellent once again as they held the Muskies to just 35 percent shooting from the field. They also forced 14 turnovers and held the Muskies to just eight made 3-pointers. They also displayed a balanced offensive attack and each of their six players scored in double-figures in Week 3. Michael Bundy led the way with 21 points off the bench and Chris Maher added a productive 17 points.

2. Rebels (3-0)

Last week: (2), W vs Lightning, 61-43

The Rebels added another one to their win total, but unlike their overtime effort in Week 2, this one was by a much more comfortable margin. Defense was the story for the Rebels as they limit the Lightning to 34 percent shooting from the field and four 3-pointers. They caused chaos all over the court and forced 21 Lightning turnovers. The offense was carried by Ryan McGuire, who scored a game-high 25 points. Their outside shooting was a bit off as they shot 2-15 from deep.

3. Aardvarks (3-0)

Last week: (1), W vs THEM, 82-78 OT

The Aardvarks needed overtime to defeat THEM in what turned out to be a thrilling finish. They were efficient putting the ball in the basket, shooting 49 percent from the floor, 41 percent from beyond the arc, and 90 percent from the free-throw line. However, they were at times careless with the ball and it resulted in 14 turnovers. Thomas Hoistad led the scoring with 21 points and Emmanuel Harrison hit six 3-pointers for 18 points. Adam Hoven led the team with 18 rebounds and 7 assists.

4. Muskies (1-1)

Last week: (4), L vs Guerrillas, 64-82

The Muskies couldn’t get their outside shooting to fall and shot just 23 percent from downtown in their Week 3 loss. They shot 35 percent overall and their lack of shot-making was compounded by too many turnovers -- 14 to be exact -- and the offense suffered as a result. Glen Fair registered a 21-point, 11-rebound double-double which led the team in both categories. Kyle Radde finished with 15 points and 8 rebounds.

5. THEM (1-2)

Last week: (5), L vs Aardvarks, 78-82

THEM weren’t to hold off the Aardvarks at the end of regulation and their overtime effort came up just short in their Week 3 loss. THEM were terrific in the turnover department, forcing the Aardvarks into 14 while having just 5 of their own. They also made 11 3-pointers on the night, but made just 63 percent of their free throws. Devin Stensrude had another strong night offensively, pouring in 37 points and made five 3-pointers. Nirav Sura added 14 points including four made 3s.

6. Red Devils (1-2)

Last week: (8), W vs Player’s Club, 64-61

After a close OT loss in Week 2, the Red Devils were able to finish the job in Week 3 to get their first victory of the season. This game nearly went into overtime as well, but the Red Devils were able to hold off the Player’s Club late-game effort. Luke Bruun led the team with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Alex Riley also had a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds while leading the team with 5 assists. 

7. Loons (1-2)

Last week: (7), W vs Free Agents, 71-32

The Loons bounced back from a close loss in Week 2 and earned their first win of the season. They were excellent on the defensive end as they held the Free Agents to just 22 percent from the floor. Their offense was led by Tom Anderson, who scored a game-high 32 points on 77 percent shooting. Aaron Lukitsch made a team-high four 3-pointers on the way to 18 points for the game. Mike Ratelle facilitated the offense and had 6 of the team’s 16 assists.

8. Player’s Club (1-2)

Last week: (6), L vs Red Devils, 61-64

The Player’s Club fell just short in their Week 3 loss to the Red Devils. While they limited the Red Devils offense, they experienced some struggles of their own on that side of the ball. They converted on 35 percent of their field goal attempts and made just 7 of their 37 three-pointers. Steven Kelsey finished with 13 points and had 6 of the team’s 16 assists. Tony DeBoer led the scoring effort with 15 points and had 14 rebounds as well.

9. Lightning (0-3)

Last week: (9), L vs Rebels, 43-61

The Lightning had an inefficient night shooting the ball in their Week 3 loss to the Rebels. As a team, they shot 34 percent from the floor and 24 percent from beyond the arc. They also didn’t do enough to protect the rock and totaled 21 turnovers. Defensively, the Lightning were solid as they held their opponent to 40 percent and just two 3-pointers. Ahmed Haji and Mike Healy led the team with 11 points while Jake Gave finished with a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double.

10. Free Agents (0-1)

Last week: (10), L vs Loons, 32-71

The Free Agents had some expected struggles in Week 3 considering they haven’t developed their team chemistry quite yet. They shot just 22 percent from the floor and had just 4 assists. They’ll need to share the ball in the coming weeks and should see their chemistry improve. Vernon Simmons led the scoring with 15 points and had 11 rebounds as well. Matt Bertsch finished with 8 points to aid the scoring effort.
