BLOOMINGTON SOUTH: Week 4 Predictions

Rebels (3-0) vs Muskies (1-1)

The Rebels will look to maintain their perfect record and will be challenged by the Muskies, who will be looking to rebound from a poor Week 3 performance. The Rebels have been excellent on the defensive end and rank 1st in the league in points allowed (52.7) per game. They are second in steals per game and will look to force the issue with the Muskies, who had 14 turnovers last week.

Neither team shot the ball well from outside in Week 3, but it will be more of a point of emphasis for the Muskies as they favor the three-point shot. Cody Heinz of the Rebels and Sonny Young-Graves of the Muskies are two dangerous perimeter threats and we’ll see if either of them can get it going from outside. I think the Muskies will have a better outing offensively, but it won’t quite be enough against a tough Rebels side.

Red Devils (1-2) vs Free Agents (0-1)

The Red Devils earned their first win last week and will look to make it two in a row as they face the Free Agents. The Red Devils didn’t have a great shooting night, hitting just 37 percent of their shots, but they attacked the offensive glass and gathered 11 offensive rebounds. They’ll take their fair share of 3-pointers and they converting 35 percent from deep this season. However, turnovers have been an issue and they’ll look to lower their 15.3 turnovers per game.

The Free Agents will have to be aggressive defensively and try to turnover the ball. They shot just 22 percent from the field last week, so easy transition baskets will be very helpful for this squad. They will also have to do a better job of creating shots for each other. Vernon Simmons led the team in scoring last week and we’ll see who will step up this week. I think the Red Devils carry their momentum from last week and get another W.

Red Devils by 15

Guerrillas (2-0) vs Aardvarks (3-0)

Two undefeated teams will enter, but only one will remain as the Guerrillas take on the Aardvarks. The Guerrillas have had two terrific displays this season and look like a complete team on both ends of the court. They’re averaging 84.0 points per game while holding opponent to just 60.0 points per game. Dajon McKnight has had an excellent start to the season and leads the Guerrillas with 21.0 points and 17.5 rebounds per game.

The Aardvarks have been the top offensive team in the league so far this season and average 88.3 points per game. They’ve been very efficient shooting the ball, connecting on 54 percent of their field goal attempts and 41 percent from beyond the arc. Adam Hoven is nearly averaging a triple-double so far this season with 14.3 points, 16.3 rebounds, and 9.7 assists. They’ve been a little bit too risky with the ball and will need to lower their turnover rate. I think this will be a close game down to the wire and I’ll take the Guerrillas to come out with the win.

Guerrillas by 4

Lighting (0-3) vs THEM (1-2)

THEM weren’t able to get their second win last week, but will give it another go as they take on the Lightning. THEM have bounced back from a poor Week 1 showing and have had back-to-back solid displays. Devin Stensrude has been the man on offense and has put up 75 points over the last two weeks.

The Lightning will have to make it a priority to slow him down on that end of the court. Nirav Sura enjoyed some success shooting the ball last week and he’ll look to maintain his presence from outside. The Lightning have had some struggles on the offensive end, particularly from beyond the arc. They’re shooting just 28 percent from three-point land and that’s a mark they’ll have to improve if they want to get a win in Week 4. Jake Gave had been their leader offensively and enters this game averaging 17.0 points per game. THEM have been playing well of late and look for them to get another win in Week 4.

Loons (1-2) vs Player’s Club (1-2)

The Loons picked up win number one on the season while the Player’s Club have dropped two straight games. The Loons enter Week 4 with the third best defensive mark (62.7 PAPG) in the league and will try to make things difficult for the Player’s Club. Mike Ratelle is tied for the league lead in steals with 4.0 per game. Offensively, they’ve been solid shooting the ball and have had good production from three-point range, averaging 10.0 makes per game. Tom Anderson leads the team averaging 22.0 points per game and is a force inside, but is also making 57 percent of his three’s this season.

The Player’s Club have a done a great job sharing the ball and average 17.0 assists per game this season. Still, they’ll want to improve on their percentages as they’re shooting 38 percent from the floor and 23 percent from deep. Steven Kelsey leads the team in points (15.7) and assists (5.0) per game and will need to put in a good performance this week. I think it’ll be a close game between these two and I’ll take the Player’s Club to come out with a win.
