BURLINGTON: Week 5 Power Rankings

By David Jordan | Burlington Media Associate

$hmoney survived a near scare as they narrowly squeezed out a win over the Wolves. In what was a matchup of undefeated vs winless, the Wolves came in with only four players and almost pulled off the upset. But as we all know, almost doesn’t count. $hmoney got the win, and that’s all that matters at the end of the day. They’ll take it. And we’ll take this week’s rankings. Let’s get to it.

1. $hmoney (4-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 1

$hmoney was playing with fire last week, but they found a way to walk away unscathed. Stephen Prescod (25 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists) and Jason LaPlanche (13 points, 6 rebounds, 12 assists) both nearly triple- doubled in the win. A win is a win, no matter how pretty or ugly it is. $hmoney found a way to get the win, and thus remain at the top of the BGN power rankings.  .

2. Dream Team (4-0) Last Week’s Ranking - 2

The Dream Team has done it again. With only four players, The Dream Team managed to put up 72 points, and win by double digits.  Rennie Cato (27 Points, 6 rebounds, 5 steals) and Tomas Morales (23 points) led the team in scoring. But with only four players on the court, everyone worked and contributed to the win. Shout out to Waking Nicolas & Carlos Rance for the tough win.

3. The Rox (3-1) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

The Rox have found a way to put a nice winning streak together, as their 15-point win over the Wildcats helped them to improve to 3-1 on the season.  The team was led by Marcos Flores- Banegas (31 points) and Thomas Ugbesia (17 points, 12 rebounds) in the double-digit win. Banegas imposed his will on the night, going 8-12 from the free throw line. The Rox continues their rise up in the rankings. .

4. Fire (2-2) Last Week’s Ranking - 5

Fire received a win due to a forfeit by Legendary.

5. Legendary (2-2)  Last Week’s Ranking - 3

Legendary received a loss due to a forfeit against Fire.

6. Reformation  (1-3) Last Week’s Ranking - 4

It was too little too late for Reformation, as they couldn’t battle back from the first half deficit that they had dug themselves, eventually losing. Jean Romulus was the team standout with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Bilal Ribani also helped chip in with 14 points and 6 rebounds.

7. Wolves (0-4) Last Week’s Ranking - 7

It seems to be the same story for the Wolves, as once again they were in a tough battle, but couldn’t find a way to get the win. Taking on a $hmoney team that may be the best in the league, the Wolves nearly pulled off the upset with only four players. Zach Fahey (37 points, 11 rebounds) nearly willed his team to a win with his performance . Isaac Remy (20 points, 5 rebounds), Chris Fissore (16 points, 11 rebounds), and Shawn Faey (9 points, 4 rebounds)  also deserve some recognition for almost pulling off the upset.

8. Wildcats (0-4) Last Week’s Ranking - 8

The effort was better this week, but the outcome was the same.  Tim McCarthy (24 points, 7 rebounds) just didn't have enough to keep his team from going 0-4. The team shot 50 percent from the field, but needs more complete games from the entire squad in order to keep themselves in games. The good thing is, at 0-4, they are still tied for the record of worst team in the game.
