Rebels Hold onto the Top Spot After Beating the Guerrillas

BLOOMINGTON SOUTH: Week 8 Power Rankings

1. Rebels (6-1)

Last week: (1), W vs Guerrillas, 91-77

The Rebels got a big win in their Week 7 tilt against their rivals. Their offense was firing on all cylinders, shooting 54 percent from the field and 55 percent from beyond the arc. They were also fantastic on the offensive boards and grabbed 13 offensive rebounds as a team. Three players scored at least 20 points and shot at least 50 percent from the field -- Ryan McGuire (24), Cody Heinz (22), and Carson Heinz (20).

2. Aardvarks (4-2)

Last week: (4), bye

The Aardvarks were off in Week 7, but were able to see a climb in the rankings with losses by a couple of teams ahead of them. After starting the season 4-0, the Aardvarks have suffered back-to-back losses and will be looking to right the ship before the playoffs. They average the second most points per game in the league, scoring 77.2 per game, and are led in the scoring department by Thomas Hoistad’s 18.3 PPG. Adam Hoven leads the league in assists (7.5) and rebounding (14.7).

3. Guerrillas (5-2)

Last week: (2), L vs Rebels, 77-91

The Guerrillas couldn’t match the hot shooting of the Rebels in their Week 7 loss. The Guerrillas actually made more 3-pointers than their opponent, making 13 versus 12 by the Rebels, but it required 12 more attempts. They were playing catch-up from the start and were down 43-26 at halftime, but made a valiant effort with 51 second half points. Dajon McKnight was the high scorer in the game with 34 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. 

4. Muskies (5-2)

Last week: (3), L vs Red Devils, 48-67

Sometimes you live by the 3, and sometimes you die by the 3. The Muskies made just 8 of their 32 3-point attempts and shot 30 percent overall from the field. Their second half was especially poor with just 10 points scored. However, they did manage to cut their turnovers in half from the 16 they had a week ago. Kyle Radde finished with a team-high 14 points and Glen Fair added 13 points.

5. Loons (4-3)

Last week: (5), W vs Lightning, 94-56

The Loons put together a terrific display on the offensive end and scored a season-high 94 points. They shot 59 percent from the field and made 11 of their 26 3-pointers. They had 23 assists as a team, led by Aaron Lukitsch’s 7 assists. Lukitsch made four 3s on the way to 20 points and JB Korte added five 3s while finishing with 17 points. Tom Anderson led the team with 22 points while shooting 56 percent from the field. 

6. THEM (4-3)

Last week: (6), W vs Free Agents, 97-50

On the back of their 3-point shooting, THEM secured a decisive victory over the Free Agents. THEM fired away 45 3-pointers and 21 of those shots found nylon. They also shot 55 percent as a team. Devin Stensrude finished with 12 3-pointers and 52 points in the game. Nirav Sura also had a big night with seven 3s and 23 points scored. Quintin Brown finished with a team-leading 13 assists.

7. Red Devils (2-5)

Last week: (8), W vs Muskies, 67-48

The Red Devils caught fire from beyond the arc and played great on the defensive end in their Week 7 victory. They made 10 of their 25 3-point attempts and each of their six players contributed to that mark. They also held their opponent to 30 percent shooting from the field. Five players finished in double figures, led by Alex Riley’s 14 points. Eric Lois and Aaron Zietlow each finished with 13 points.

8. Player’s Club (2-4)

Last week: (7), bye

The Player’s Club were off last week and will be looking to finish the season on a high note, but have a difficult finish to the season. They finish the season with matchups against the Guerrillas and Aardvarks. In their previous game, they nearly came back against the Muskies with a strong second half performance. They lead the league in steals (8.5) per game and forced their fair share against the Muskies. Steven Kelsey leads the team with an average of 18.3 points per game.

9. Lightning (1-6)

Last week: (9), L vs Loons, 56-94

The Lightning looked to be hit with fatigue, particularly in the second half, in an up-and-down game versus the Loons. The uptempo style didn’t bode well for the Iron Five that were out there and it showed in a 46 to 24 point difference in the second half. The Lightning shot just 33 percent from the field and 22 percent from deep. Mike Healey ended up with a team-high 20 points with four makes from deep and 8 rebounds. Bronson Bartolo added 14 points to the scoring effort.

10. Free Agents (1-6)

Last week: (10), L vs THEM, 50-97

It was a tough night for the Free Agents, who were down a man in this game. They shot just 32 percent from the floor and made 3 of their 13 3-point attempts. They were able to convert from the charity stripe when they got there, making 11 of their 14 attempts. Matthew Bertsch led the scoring for the Free Agents with 20 points and grabbed a team-high 8 rebounds. Mike Weyrauch added 11 points on 45 percent shooting and 7 rebounds.
