Will Anyone Stop Jeurys Familia and Mike Mastro?
SYOSSET DRAFT: Week 2 Power Rankings

1. Jeurys Famila (1-0)
Jeurys Familia opened up their season last week with a win in dominating fashion. Mike Mastro put up a ridiculous stat line of 23 points, 19 rebounds and 14 assists, which puts him number one in the country in PPR. Mastro, alongside Jordan Oringer, built this Jeurys Familia team perfectly. They filled the roster with plenty of shooters around Mastro to spread the floor. If Week 1 is a sign of things to come, then Jeurys Familia could be on their way to a dominate season.
2. RTG (1-0)
Led by Ken Koerner and William Clay, RTG came out firing in Week 1. To open the game, Clay was unloading from three and knocked down his first four. He finished with 29 points, shooting 8-18 from deep with 14 rebounds in his UH debut. Koerner poured in another 25 points and showed that the duo is going to be one of the best this season. The x-factor for RTG is another new player to UH, and that’s Christian Rodriguez, a former college player. If Rodriguez lives up to the hype of a first-round pick, RTG will have three excellent players.
3. Pass First (1-0)
Pass First coming into the season was the one team that I had a lot of questions about. It didn’t take too long for those questions to be answered when they took down Lottery Picks 79-67 in Week 1 and showed how athletic and fast their team will be this season. They put up plenty of shots and attacked the rim to create open looks on every possession. The mystery of the draft was Justin Lambert and he was excellent in his debut, scoring 17 points on 6-7 shooting. Pass First had four of their five starters score in double digits. If they can spread the ball around and continue to get good open looks they will be a tough team to beat.
4. Thundercats (0-1)
The Thundercats opened their season against Jeurys Familia and had zero answers for Mike Mastro. They certainly aren’t the first team, and won’t be the last, who has issues stopping Mastro. The Thundercats have one of the best teams top to bottom, with plenty of playmakers and guys who can score the ball. Their issue is on the defensive side. If they can’t get on the same page and find ways to get stops in crucial points of the game, it will stop them from become a top team in the league this season.
5. Lottery Picks (0-1)
Lottery Picks, led by RaShawn Church and Will Cheatham, had a tough Week 1, with only five players available. They were missing one of their most important players in Spencer Weinstein, who will be a crucial piece to the team. They suffered a loss to a talented Pass First team and went down early in the game and didn’t have enough fire power to get back in it. With a full roster Lottery Picks should only get better, and once they build some chemistry it will make the game a lot easier. For Lottery Picks to succeed this season they need RaShawn to score the ball and Will Cheatham to lead the effort on defense to get the team going in the right direction.
6. 1-877-Lessons 4 Kids (0-1)
Jake and Maxx Rosenbloom have struggled with their Lessons 4 Kids teams this season in both Syosset and Garden City. They are coming off a triple OT loss in Garden City and now are hoping to get on the board with a win in Syosset this week. Jake Rosenbloom scored a Week 1-high 34 points on 16-22 from the field. If Jake can continue to put up big numbers like that and get some help from his teammates scoring the ball, Lessons 4 Kids will make a huge jump. They played a tough RTG team in Week 1 and just couldn’t get enough stops to stay in the game. For this team to take the next step they need more offense from Ming Wang, the number-one overall pick.
