Father-son duo Ben and David Leder win second championship together
The first championship of the Fall 2019 season has been handed out, and it was won by the Wolves in the Westwood Rec League. They defeated the Redbulls 68-54 last night to claim the title.
Westwood started its rec league in the Spring of 2019, and the Wolves have now won two of those three championships. At the helm of both of those championship runs is Ben Leder and his son David, who are doing what LeBron hopes to do with Bronny Jr. in 2023.
“It feels great to have David on the team, he really led us most of the way, so that was fun,” Ben Leder said in a post-game interview.
The father-son duo combined to score 27 points last night, which was right around their combined average of 29.4 this season. This is a slight improvement to the combined average of 28.1 points during their championship run in the spring.
Rich Allen was the most consistent offensive threat for the Wolves all season, averaging 24.9 points, fourth-highest in the league, and he had a season-high 31 in the championship game. The player that was right ahead of him as the third-highest scorer in the league this season, Mario Payne, was not in attendance for the Redbulls last night, and they could not make up for the 27.3 points he’s averaged this season.
This is now the third completed season of the Westwood Rec League, and the Redbulls have played in all three of the championship games. They are now 1-2 in title games, with both losses coming against the Wolves.
