Mckinsey Golfin becomes first player in UH history to score 15,000 points
Mckinsey Golfin is the first player in Ultimate Hoops history to score 15,000 points. He did so by scoring 29 points last night in the Shelby Open League, putting his point total to 15,021. That puts him 2,243 points ahead of newly minted Hall of Famer Vaughan Gray, the second all-time leading scorer.
The milestone came on the day before the one-year anniversary of Golfin’s induction into the Ultimate Hoops Hall of Fame. He and fellow Shelby legend Johnnie Brown got inducted on July 25, 2018.
Unfortunately for Golfin, the milestone came in a 75-67 loss to Y-Lie, but that doesn’t take away from the significance of this never-before-seen achievement.
“Basketball has always been my passion,” Golfin said. “I’m just trying to continue to play for as long as I can for the love of the game.”
Golfin’s first game in Ultimate Hoops came on October 4, 2009, where he scored 16 points in an 82-48 win for Miller Time. He’s been getting buckets ever since, averaging 20.8 points on 55% shooting form the field and 45% from deep in 772 UH games.
He embodies the mantra of “never retire” better than almost anyone, and I won’t be surprised to see Golfin get to 20,000 points in a few years.
